The first spacewalk of astronaut Anil Menon is next week.


 Astronaut Anil Menon will go on his first spacewalk next week to install new solar arrays, a communications antenna and new data and power cables on the International Space Station to help it maintain operations.

The three spacewalks will be performed on Aug. 6, Aug. 13 and Aug. 25.
Two spacewalkers will perform the second spacewalk, on Aug. 13, to replace a Space-to-Ground antenna on the orbital complex. The antenna is an essential part of the communication system utilized by NASA to send information and high-speed communication between the Mission Control Centre (Houston) and the space station.
The astronauts also will swap out a navigational aid that assists spacecraft in docking on the forward port to the Harmony module, NASA said.
Menon posted an awe-inspiring space portrait of the launch pad complex in South Texas where SpaceX launches its rockets last week, a unique perspective of the launch pad complex from orbit.

Born in Minneapolis to an Indian father who hails from Kerala and a Ukrainian mother, Menon arrived on the International Space Station on July 14 aboard the Soyuz MS-29 spacecraft.
He will spend approximately eight months aboard the Orbiting Service Structure, during which he will participate in scientific experiments, technology demonstrations and operational activities on the station.
