Apple Foldable iPhone Leak: iPhone Ultra Design, Features and Fan Reactions

The latest leaks indicate that the foldable iPhone may have a 5.5-inch outer display and a 7.8-inch inner display.

A working prototype of the rumored Apple iPhone foldable has been leaked online, and it's a pretty good preview of what the first iPhone of the foldables could look like. Canadian tech YouTuber Lewis Hilsenteger (Unbox Therapy) recently revealed a fake of Apple's rumoured foldable iPhone, which he claimed was the Chinese version. The video has already garnered over 2 million views.

The device in the video is of the book-like foldable design, like Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold series. It expands and becomes a tablet-like display when open and collapses into a more traditional smartphone shape when closed. The outer screen of the foldable iPhone might be 5.5-inches while the inner screen could be 7.8-inches, according to recent leaks. The larger screen, when unfolded, is supposed to provide more room for multitasking, browsing and such tablet-like activities.

A prominent feature of the mock-up is the crease which runs through the centre of the display. Apple was reportedly trying to make the crease much less noticeable than on several other brands that already offer foldables. Hilsenteger also added that the prominent crease on the mock-up closely resembles the finish product and will likely not be seen in the final product. According to Apple, the company is working on a "liquid-metal hinge" to help cut the crease.

The leak also has already sparked a debate online as to the design. Some have complained about the hard lines of the body and soft lines of the corners on the display, and others have joked about the phone, dubbing it the iHold.

I wonder, why is it half square/half rounded? It's the sharp edge of the body that poke's through the rounded corner of the screen – one of the most grievous design decisions I've ever seen on a phone. I'm so sad looking at the device, makes me think of a person leaving a mark on a white board then wiping it off.

A second user wrote: “Yes the asymmetry is terrible, I agree with that, as is the Google Fold and Motorola Folds.” A third said, "I feel like the corner will have to be sharp enough to have a seamless screen when it's opened.

A fourth said: "I felt as if I did, but when I thought about it, having the rounded part of the phone in my right hand would give me the same feel as previous iPhones as the rounded side of the phone would be in my palm, and I hate the look of that. 

A fifth replied, "I think the asymmetry is overblown, but as far as hand feel is concerned, I think that in daily use will be better with this design vs the Samsung and I do understand how it looks aesthetically, but in day to day usage I think apples will feel better with it. It also has been their design language for years.

Some people said that it was premature to predict and that it would be better to wait until it's made available for purchase.

Other leaks suggest that it will be approximately 4.5mm thick when opened up and have two 48-megapixel back cameras. Face ID is not the only option Apple is considering, though, as it has said it might also incorporate Touch ID into its side button.

Cost will be an important factor to discuss. Apple's first foldable iPhone may be over $2,000, reports indicate. A user pointed out that the price on the fold is going to be "stupid expensive. 

Apple is expected to introduce the foldable iPhone at the event the same day or very near the release of the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max.
